In the lawn or on the rail
The yard poles go together from seven pieces: a top with a claw, five middle sections of about 1.4 feet each and a five-prong fork at the bottom. You thread them together, push the fork into the soil and stand at 12 to 15 feet, depending on how many middle sections you use. Hard ground takes the fork more easily after a 5 gallon bucket of water, and the buckles and screws in the box fix a pole to a fence or deck post instead.
The deck poles are shorter, about 5 feet, in four threaded sections, and they never touch the ground: clamps hold each one to a rail or fence, and a screw at the base takes the weight. Use them where the lawn ends and the deck begins, or along a porch that has no beam to hang a string from. Both kinds are galvanized metal with a coating against rust, and both sit on the outdoor shelf of the Nexillumi catalog.

Questions
Nexillumi string light poles: your questions
How tall do you need your Nexillumi string light poles?
Over a lawn or patio, the yard poles stand 12 to 15 feet so people walk under the string. On a deck, the 5 foot poles clamp to the rail and carry the string above the rail line.
Are string lights included with your Nexillumi poles?
No. Both packs hold the poles and their fittings only, so bring your own string.
Can you put the yard poles in hard ground?
Yes. Soak the spot with about 5 gallons of water first and push the fork all the way in. The buckles and screws in the box also fix a pole to a fence or post.
How many poles does your run need?
Count the corners of your run, then add a pole wherever the string would hang too low between two of them. The yard poles come in packs of 4, 6, 8 and 10, the deck poles in 4 and 6.
